ReMoKey

Support

ReMoKey is made by one person. I read every message and reply as quickly as I reasonably can, but please expect days rather than hours.

Reporting a problem

Use the app’s own reporter rather than writing from scratch. On your iPhone it is Report a problem, in Settings; on your Mac it is Report a Problem… in the menu-bar menu. Either one gathers recent connection events and packages them into a report.

If your iPhone is connected to your Mac when you send it, the report carries both halves of the story. If it is not — which is exactly the case when the problem is that they will not connect — the report says so and is sent with your iPhone’s half alone. That is still far more useful than a plain email: “it won’t connect” cannot be diagnosed, while a report says which end failed and when.

The app opens an email addressed to support@remokey.app with the report attached. Check the attachment is present before sending — some mail clients drop it, and the app tells you where the file is saved so you can attach it yourself.

Two things that are usually the cause

The Mac isn’t responding to input. ReMoKey for Mac needs permission to post keyboard and mouse events. Grant it from ReMoKey’s own menu-bar menu rather than from System Settings — macOS ties the permission to the app that asks, and granting it elsewhere can leave ReMoKey still blocked.

The iPhone can’t find the Mac. Some Wi-Fi access points don’t pass the discovery traffic ReMoKey uses to find your Mac automatically, which is common on mesh systems and guest networks. Connecting to the Mac directly still works — both devices must be on the same network.
